Official forms

8
Mercurio receipt
Mercurio Submission Receipt (Justificante)
The official PDF receipt Mercurio gives you the moment your renewal application is signed and submitted. Contains the expediente (file) number, the submission timestamp, and the list of documents you uploaded. This is your proof that the renewal is officially 'en trámite'.
Approval letter
Resolución de Concesión (Approval Letter / 'Esta comunicación')
The official PDF notice from the Oficina de Extranjería confirming that your renewal has been approved ('concedida'). It includes your name, NIE, the new authorization period, and a list of the exact documents you must bring to the huellas appointment. The police office calls this 'Esta comunicación' — they will not issue the new TIE without it.
Cita confirmation
Cita Previa Confirmation (Huellas)
The booking confirmation for your 'Toma de huellas' (fingerprinting) appointment at the Policía Nacional. The PDF includes the date, time, office address, your name, your NIE, and a booking reference code. You must bring it to the appointment — without it, they can turn you away.
EX-17
EX-17 — TIE Application Form
The official application form for the Foreigner Identity Card (TIE). Used for the first issuance, renewal, and replacement of the TIE card.
Padrón form
Empadronamiento Form (Full d'Inscripció Padronal)
The form you fill in at the Oficina d'Atenció Ciutadana (OAC) to register your address with the Barcelona city council. Required for many other procedures including the TIE.
Regreso
Autorización de Regreso Request
A special travel authorization that allows you to leave Spain and return while your TIE renewal is in process or while a TIE replacement is being issued.
Approximately €11
EX-00
EX-00 — Prórroga de Estancia por Estudios
The application form to renew (extend) your student residence authorization. Used before applying for a new TIE card during renewal.
Padrón certificate
Certificado de Empadronamiento (Volante de Empadronament)
The certificate that proves you are registered at an address in Barcelona. You receive a basic 'volante' at the time of registration, and can request a more formal 'certificat' afterward.

Fees

1
Tasa 790-012
Modelo 790 Código 012 — Tax Form (police sede)
The official tax form generated on the Policía Nacional sede. The SAME 790-012 form is used for several different government fees — you tick a different 'concepto' (concept) depending on what you're paying for. In the TIE renewal flow you pay it TWICE: once for the renewal authorization (before submitting Mercurio) and again later for the physical TIE card (before the huellas appointment).
Depends on the concept — €17.49 for the renewal authorization (2026 rate), ~€16 for first-issuance TIE card, ~€19 for renewal TIE card. Verify when you generate the form; rates are updated annually in the State Budget.

Personal ID

7
TIE Card (Tarjeta de Identidad de Extranjero)
The physical card that proves your legal residence in Spain. Contains your NIE number, photo, and the expiration date of your authorization.

Housing proof

3
Rental Contract (Contrato de Alquiler)
Your signed rental agreement with the landlord or housing provider. Used as proof of address for empadronamiento.

Education

3
Transcripts
Academic Transcripts
An official record of the courses you've completed and the grades you've earned during the period covered by your current TIE. Used to demonstrate you are actively progressing in your studies.

Other

1
Digital Certificate (FNMT)
A digital certificate issued by the FNMT (Fábrica Nacional de Moneda y Timbre) that lets you sign documents and authenticate yourself on Spanish government websites. Essential for TIE renewal via Mercurio.
Recent Carnet-Size Photo
A passport-style ID photo (32mm × 26mm in Spain) with a white background. Used for the TIE card.
Bank statement
Bank Statement — Proof of Financial Means
A recent statement (extracto bancario) from a bank account in your name showing you can cover the full requested stay. Spain measures this against the IPREM (Indicador Público de Renta de Efectos Múltiples): the rule for students is 100% IPREM per month of stay.
100% IPREM × number of months of stay. As of 2025 the IPREM monthly is €600 (so ~€7,200 per 12 months). Always verify the current IPREM at https://www.iprem.com.es before applying — the figure is set each year in the State Budget.
Resguardo (TIE receipt)
Resguardo de Solicitud de TIE
The paper receipt the police hand you at the end of your fingerprint appointment. It proves your TIE is being processed and — most importantly — prints WHERE and WHEN to come back to pick up your card.
Medical insurance
Private Medical Insurance
A private health insurance policy with full coverage in Spain, no copays, no waiting periods, and no maximum reimbursement limits. Public insurance (such as your home country's) is not accepted.
Student Visa (Visado de Estudios, type D)
The long-stay student visa issued by the Spanish consulate in your country before you traveled. It is a sticker glued inside your passport.
Passport
Your valid passport from your home country. Required for almost every step of Spanish bureaucracy.
Owner's Authorization Letter (Autorización del Propietario)
A signed letter from the owner of the property authorizing you to register at the address. Used when you are not the contract holder (e.g., subletting a room).
Recent Utility Bill (Factura)
A recent water, electricity, gas, or internet bill in your name or the property owner's name, showing the registered address. Sometimes used as supplementary proof of residence.
Proof of Enrollment / Carta de Admisión
A letter from your Spanish university, language school, or program confirming you are enrolled. Used for both the initial visa and TIE renewal.
Tuition / scholarship proof
Tuition Payment Receipt or Scholarship Letter
Proof you have paid (or have been awarded funding to pay) the academic fees for the upcoming period covered by the renewal.
