Medical insurance — Private Medical Insurance

A private health insurance policy with full coverage in Spain, no copays, no waiting periods, and no maximum reimbursement limits. Public insurance (such as your home country's) is not accepted.

How to get it

Buy from a Spanish insurer that issues a 'certificado para extranjería' — common picks are Sanitas (Más Salud or similar full-coverage plans), Swisscare Student Insurance, Adeslas, DKV, or Mapfre. Ask explicitly for the immigration certificate; a generic policy summary will be rejected.

Common mistakes

— Plan has copays (copagos) — extranjería requires copay-free coverage
— Coverage start/end dates don't span the full renewal period from your admission letter
— Submitting only the receipt, not the official certificado de cobertura signed by the insurer
— Travel insurance instead of resident health insurance — they are not the same

The coverage window must start no later than the day your current TIE expires and run through the end date on your admission letter.
